Watch Anything Olympics

Monday August 11, 2008

I'm usually pretty indifferent to the Olympics, but this year I've found myself wanting to watch more than ever. Part of it is a fascination and the spectacle that is being put on. But I'm also interested in watching because of how the whole thing is being broadcast. Through the internet and HD television, the Olympics are getting more exposure than ever.

Microsoft and NBC have teamed up to give you the ability to watch all of the Olympic events, from the most popular to obscure sports that have never seen screen time before.

To access the online broadcast you need to downoad Silverlight, Microsoft's new multimedia software designed to compete with Adobe Flash for a piece of the online video market.

It's easy to understand why Microsoft would want to get more involved in the streaming video market, but let's hope Silverlight v. Flash doesn't turn into another HD DVD v. Bluray or VHS v. Beta. As a video producer, I admit that I appreciate being able to deliver videos in a single format that I know everyone will be able to watch.
