Web Video Goes Boom
Last week, I was interviewed by the business reporter from my local paper for a story about my company and about web video in general. I got to tell him all about what I do, and explain the massive boom that's occurred in web video over the past few years. Everyone knows about sites like YouTube, which have taken off and given a platform for amateur or user-generated video. But there's also been a huge revolution for professionally produced content.
When I earned my master's in video production five years ago, no one was looking to hire a full-time videographer on staff. Instead, I had to go out and find my own clients, and really work to convince them that producing a video was a worthwhile investment. I stuck with it, though, because I could see where the technology and the need were going to merge, right over the horizon.
Now, everyone is hiring videographers, and it's all thanks to the internet. Major nonprofits are looking for people to manage and produce web videos; radio stations and newspapers are producing their own online videos; schools, governments and businesses are becoming internet broadcasters. And then there are all the websites that are paying video creators.
Most everyone has come to recognize the value of web video. We're talking about being able to broadcast your message, to the world, for free. Who wouldn't be interested in that?

I just read the article in the Gazette. I live in Leeds and teach in Southampton (and do claymation animation with students). Now I have you in my rss feed.
Great job
Kevin
I live in the Pioneer Valley and read the article about you and Media Shower Productions in today’s Gazette. Fascinating stuff. Great to know that there are local businesses working on the cutting edge of internet technology.
