Built for the pros
AVID is known for its high-end editing systems, which are used for the majority of shows on TV. Xpress Pro is a simplified version of these professional programs.
The program is great for students and other editors with lofty aspirations, because learning Xpress trains users for more advanced editing models. This is not so great for novice editors, who may find the professional nature of AVID systems frustrating. The program was built to handle complex projects, so the basic commands arent necessarily easy to find.
Creative control
What users get out of Xpress Pro depends on how much theyre willing to put in to learning it. The program and the effects are designed for editors who want to impose creative control, not create cookie-cutter videos.
I discovered this the first time I tried to turn a clip black and white. I looked, in vain, through the filters and effects before discovering that I needed to first apply the color effect and then turn the saturation to zero. If you're looking to apply generic effects at the click of a button, Xpress Pro may not be for you.
But if you want an outstanding array of editing possibilites and custom effects, XPress Pro is just what you're looking for. It comes with real time effects and graphics, unlimited audio tracks, eight video tracks, key framing, color correction, advanced audio editing, and on and on. Xpress Pro gives you the tools to create basically any editing sequence you can dream of. Its only worth it, though, if you're willing to take the time to learn to use those tools.
