The iSupr8 mobile app is a great way to bring a familiar, home-movie style feel to the memories you capture with digital video. iSupr8 combines creative effects with a simple user interface, letting you have fun while shooting unique, vintage movies. Compatible with iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, iSupr8 combines portability with style without breaking the bank.
Check it out for some good-old app fun.
First, you'll need to download the iSupr8 app from iTunes or the App Store on your mobile device for $1.99. When you open up the app you'll find a great user interface that resembles the look and feel of a super 8 camera. If you ever feel confused, click the question mark button on the lower left-hand side of the screen to access a text overlay that describes each of the buttons and their functions. You can swipe through four different camera cases by clicking on the case icon at the top-left corner of the screen.
Before you start shooting, you can adjust several analog and digital settings. Although this app uses a lot of effects to simulate the look and feel of super 8, you still have to choose the digital shooting mode for your film. The lower quality the shooting mode, the faster your movie will process after you're done shooting.
Choose to shoot at 12, 18 or 24 frames per second. The slower the frame rate the more jittery your film will appear to strobe - try shooting in a lower frame rate to achieve an old-movie look.
Also, notice the switch for the flash. This lets you toggle the flash on at any point during shooting. Now, tap the icon next to the shooting mode to go into the development room. Here you'll be able to adjust the settings for your video, and also process your film when you're done shooting.
You can also choose from over ten film stocks before you start. You'll get the classic super 8 stock included with the app purchase, but additional film stocks cost $.99.
Then, adjust the settings by clicking on the image beneath the film cartridge. Choose to add scratches, vignetting, grain and flicker, turn the audio on or off, and you'll be on your way to that vintage movie look you love.
Recording With iSupr8:
Now, you're ready to record. Just leave the development room to return to the camera, and press the record button at the top-right of the screen. Once you're done recording, just hit the record button again to pause. One nice feature of iSupr8 is that you can record several scenes on the same roll of film. This lets you do in-camera editing while you're shooting a movie, so that you don't have to cut out scenes with an editing program.
Once you're happy with what you've shot, go back to the developing room to process the film. This will take a bit of time, especially if you shot in a higher-quality video mode. When you're done, you can watch the movie and choose to save it or start over!
If you need to get inspired, check out the feed button on the camera. Here you can watch all the super 8 movies that other users are making.
Sharing iSupr8 Movies:
iSupr8 includes several convenient sharing options. You can share your movie directly to Twitter or Facebook by logging on to either of those apps, or email it to friends and family. By clicking on the icon that looks like a roll of film, you can save the movie to your camera roll and upload it to your computer for safe keeping.
