Definition:

A Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) is an optical disc storage media format that can be used for data storage, including movies with high video and sound quality.

DVDs resemble compact discs in their physical dimensions, but they are encoded in a different format and at a much higher density. A DVD has a maximum capacity of 8.5GB. Most DVD's have a capacity of 4.7GB.
