F-stop

By Gretchen Siegchrist, About.com

Definition: A method to change the intensity of light captured by a camcorder. Each "stop" is marked with its corresponding f-number and represents a halving of the light intensity from the previous stop. F-stops manipulate the speed of the lens and, therefore, the speed of the content being recorded. The higher the F-stops, the smaller the dilation by the lens and the quicker the speed of the frame.
