Overview of Mixpo:
Mixpo is a free video sharing site featuring a handy tool called the Mixpo Publisher that allows you to upload videos and photos without any kind of file size or format restrictions.
Cost of Mixpo:
Free
Terms of Service for Mixpo:
You must be 18 years old to use Mixpo. You retain the rights to your content, but Mixpo can do what it wants with your work. You may not upload or use content in ways that are obscene, pornographic, excessively violent, offensive, infringe copyright, etc.
Sign-up Procedure for Mixpo:
Mixpo asks for an email address, username and password. You are taken to a page that asks you to download and install the Mixpo Publisher, which you must do before continuing on to the rest of the site. The Mixpo Publisher will only work for users with Windows installed on their computers.
Mixcards on Mixpo:
Mixpo users don't just upload a bunch of files. They use a Mixcard, a widget that allows you to mix media files with narration and titles to tell a story right there online. Have photos and videos of your trip to Brazil? Create a Mixcard just for that. Want to tell your life story? You can make a Mixcard for that too.
Uploading to Mixpo:
To upload media and add it to a Mixcard, go to "My Mix Center," click "Create new Mixcard," then "Add Media to this Mixcard." The Mixpo Publisher will allow you to choose files to upload.
If you have a PC, you can check the progress of the upload by hovering your mouse over the Mixpo icon in your taskbar. On the site, all you'll see is "Processing," but it does go very fast.
Be aware that all the media you upload must remain on your hard drive. If you upload something to Mixpo and it's not on your hard drive the next time you log in, Mixpo will unpublish the Mixcards that contain those files.
Tagging on Mixpo:
Mixpo doesn't work like most video sharing websites, where you can watch other peoples' content as well as uploading your own, so there are no tags because you're not searching for videos.
Viewability on Mixpo:
Mixpo compresses your videos using Flash. The quality of the image is good, but the compression can affect audio or add a strange shuddering to the movement in the video. The colors looked decent, though, and the resolution was pretty high.
Sharing from Mixpo:
Mixpo was designed to be shared. The whole point of the site is to use Mixcards to create media that is meaningful to you and then embed the Mixcard in another wbesite or blog.
Click the "Share this Mixcard" button in the upper right to open a page that displays URLs to link to your video on Mixpo, HTML code you can copy and paste to embed your Mixcard in another website, and a form where you can enter email addresses to send the Mixcard to your friends.
