The Internet Archive is a website dedicated to archiving and making texts, movies, websites, audio and more available freely to the public. The Moving Image Archive is the section of the site solely for moving images. The archive includes more than 80,000 videos and digitized films.
The question is really what can't you watch. Videos are available on every topic under the sun and include thousands of old movies and cartoons. It's a fantastic resource for teachers and students, especially when it comes to viewing things like industrial videos, World War II propaganda, or old-fashioned advertising that may be hard to find elsewhere.
The videos are small, less than three inches square, but the quality's not bad at all and the sound is generally quite good.
You'll need Adobe Flash Player 9 to watch the videos.
As if having thousands of free videos online wasn't cool enough, almost all the videos are available for download. Most are in the public domain and have a Creative Commons license. You can also embed the videos in other websites by clicking the "Embedding and help" link under each player and grabbing the HTML code provided. You can even upload videos yourself if you register for the site.
Internet Moving Image Videos are free. To upload your own videos, you'll need to register with the site, but that's free too.
