The Netflix streaming selection is quite broad, but there are several large holes.

Most notably, Netflix streaming has a very minimal selection of current TV programs and new releases. If you want these types of programs, you're better off with Hulu or iTunes.
There are thousands of titles available from Netflix streaming, and while there's a good selection of classic movies and overlooked gems, most of the videos that I end up searching for are only available on DVD.
I can always find something I'm happy to watch in the Netflix streaming selection, but I still need the mail-in DVDs to get all of the movies that I want to watch.
