Sharing Your Videos on Vimeo

Vimeo is one of the largest video sharing sites around, after YouTube, of course. But while YouTube is designed for everyone, Vimeo is focused specifically on filmmakers and their needs.

1. Vimeo Accounts

Vimeo offers three options - Basic, Plus and Pro. Basic is free, but limits you to only one upload of 500 MB per week (as of November 2011). The Plus membership offers 5GB of upload space per week, a customizable video player, advanced statistics and more for $9.95 a month or $59.95 a year. Vimeo Pro, for businesses, offers even more features for $199 per year. You can always upgrade, so it's easy to start with a Basic membership and move up if you find you need to upload more videos or you want more features for sharing videos or analyzing views.

2. Vimeo Video Settings

When you upload to your Vimeo Account, there are many things you can do to customize your videos. To begin, you can add Titles, Descriptions and Tags to all of your videos. This information will help people find your videos and know what they're about. You can also add credits to your video to recognize any contributors or partners who worked with you, link to relevant photos on Fickr or create a custom URL for sharing your video.

3. Vimeo Privacy Settings

Vimeo is great for a lot of reasons, but especially if you want to keep your videos private. Check out Vimeo's Privacy Settings and you'll see that videos can be set to public, password protected, or be restricted to certain people in various ways. You can also restrict other users from downloading or sharing your videos on Vimeo.

4. Vimeo Groups

A unique part of the Vimeo experience, Vimeo Groups allow bring users together around a shared interest to create dialogue and share videos. There are groups for nearly every topic. And if you don't find a group focused on your issue, it's simple to start your own!

5. Vimeo Channels

Vimeo Channels give individual producers a place to share their videos. As a Vimeo user you can create a new channel as a place to house all of your work. Or, create multiple channels if you want to showcase some of your videos separately.

6. Vimeo Albums

Albums are to Vimeo what Playlists are to YouTube. With a Vimeo Album you can create a collection of videos and then share all of them as a group. You can add any public videos - your own or someone else's - to an album. And you can also pass-word protect an album to keep it private.

7. Vimeo App

The Vimeo app makes it easy to access Vimeo on the go from your phone. The app even features video shooting and editing videos on your cell phone. It's free to download and easy to use.

9. Vimeo Contacts and Subscriptions

Vimeo offers two ways for you to connect and follow other users - through contacts and subscriptions. This is very similar to YouTube friends and subscribers. When you add someone as a contact on Vimeo or subscribe to their videos, you'll be updated every time they add something new.
